What is Doodle Time OS?

What is Doodle OS, and why are we building it?

Written by Kimberly Ford

Doodle Time OS is our name for the next chapter of Doodle: an operating system for your time, not just your calendar. Here's what that means and why we think it matters.

Your calendar isn't the problem, the question it asks is.

Most scheduling tools ask one question: what goes in this time slot? That question treats every hour the same, whether you're sharp or exhausted, whether the meeting matters or doesn't. The result is a familiar kind of exhaustion: a day full of meetings that leaves you unsure which one, if any, actually needed you.

Doodle Time OS starts from a different question: what should you give your attention to, and who should you be present with right now?

What Doodle OS actually is.

Doodle Time OS arranges your time around intentions, energy, and outcomes - not slots on a grid. It does two things:

It uses focus blocks, auto declines, meeting buffers, emergency modes, and more to shield your time from what doesn't deserve it.

The meeting that should have been a message, the notification that serves the sender more than you, the recurring call nobody would sign up for if they saw its true cost.

It uses advanced people collaboration tools to make sure that when people do come together, the conditions are right.

The right people, with the right context, at the right energy, for the right amount of time.

Why we're building it

Doodle started in 2007 with a simple idea: let any group of people, on any tool, find a time to meet with no enterprise software or IT department required. That original Group Poll made coordination democratic, and it's still used by tens of millions of people today.

But a poll only solves the first problem: finding a time. It doesn't solve the deeper one: whether that time should exist at all, and whether it's being spent on what matters. Doodle Time OS is what we're building to answer that second question, at the scale of a whole organization's time, not just a single meeting.

What Doodle Time OS isn't

It isn't a smarter calendar. We're not trying to make your schedule more productive- we're trying to make it more human. The aim isn't to manage your calendar more efficiently; it's to hand you back the hours that habit and overhead have been quietly taking.
